Canopus Procoder 2.0 For Mac
Im using both procoder and Tmpeg. For quick conversion i prefer to use procoder. Now i have a big problem.it appeared when i first used, but i was able to fix it. Now it appears again, and I DONT REMEMBER HOW I FIXED IT!:evil: The problem is that i get interlaced lines when converting none interlaced any kind of avi.

Hi Peeps, I don't think Sorenson Squeeze is all that good, I've been using Canopus Pro Coder for some years now the encoding quality is better than Sorenson, ie. Try the low data preset on sorenson 'mpeg/dvd sm' then try the same data rate in Pro Coder & pro coder is HEAPS BETTER AND FASTER & with more options, in fact try the high data rate presets in sorenson & procoder is STILL BETTER!, I read on the net some years ago some of the high end Sonic Scenarist dvd authoring hollywood guys used to buy Sonic mpeg hardware encoders that cost thousands, now these guys don't bother they ALL use Canopus Pro Coder becuase it is that good!.give it a shot guys! I have tried EVERY encoder available & Canopus Pro Coder in terms of final mpeg quality (at really low data rates to boot) IS THE BEST! canopus make some great products! Except for Edius! Don't think it's spam - just a Liquid user coming to MC and not knowing that this love-fest of procoder should really be posted in the GENERAL forum as this has nothing to do with MC. And having used Squeeze and Procoder- they both do the same job.
Squeeze has outrun Procoder (it's called R&D and upgrades) over time and Procoder, though a cheap solution, is no longer as good as the OP points out it was. I have had no issues with any DVD burnt at low, medium or high quality from encodes via Squeeze, nor Procoder. Having put both encodes through scopes - whilst learning the art of encoding for DVD (made many a coaster in my learning time) - there is a colour shift that is minor and the IRE is slightly less with a Procoder encode.
All-in-all, use what tool works for you. And MODS, move this to the GENERAL forum if you have time. Keeping in mind that Procoder 3 hasn't been updated in over a year, it has fallen behind the curve.More like 3 to 4 years. However 4 years ago Sorenson was miles behind it (IMO) 3 Expensive upgrades later Sorenson MAY have its nose infront but its a close call. I have had my share of duds out of Sorenson so as I said above. Different jobs use different encoders.
As someone else said TMPGenc also does a great job. FWIW going from DV to DVD none of the current encoders match my Cinemacraft (7 or 8 years since it was last updated) for speed or quality. To be fair you should really consider Carbon Coder for this comparison, which is the latest version of Procoder, better than Procoder 3.
Canopus Procoder 2.0 For Mac Download
In my recent experience, told in another topic, converting an HD edit (shot in HDV) to mp4, Carbon Coder proved much better than Sorenson Squeeze 6. With Sorenson and QT I had some interlacing issues in the final conversion. The only unusual thing, common to all converters, was that you could not anything else during conversion and no other program should be loaded, not even Windows Explorer. Several conversions stopped in the middle, after past many hours, because I did not pay enough attention to this behaviour. To be fair you should really consider Carbon Coder for this comparison, which is the latest version of Procoder, better than Procoder 3. I'm not sure it's logical to compare Carbon Coder to Squeeze since CC is $6000, as opposed to $700 for a new purchase of Squeeze, or a lot less of an upgrade purchase (I believe it's still only $200 to update to Squeeze 6 from version 5, which comes with Avid.) At 30 times the cost (if you already have Squeeze version 5), Carbon Coder had better be a LOT better than Squeeze.
Regarding Procoder vs. Squeeze, I always USED to prefer ProCoder 3 to Squeeze. Unfortunately, as others pointed out, ProCoder hasn't been updated in a while - the last update was in 2008 - and it has definitely fallen WAY behind at this point, particularly when it comes to both flash and h.264, which are arguably two of the most important parts of encoding software these days. Squeeze, on the other hand has really taken some great steps forward, particularly (in my opinion) with version 6. There are still some quirks that are annoying, like a gamma shift when using the MainConcept h.264 encoder in Squeeze, but you can adjust for this sort of thing. I found that Squeeze 6 has one of the better deinterlacing filters in it's price range, and it allows a LOT of adjustments for both h.264 and On2 VP6 encoding.
On that note, version 6 now comes with the VP6 plugin built in, which is a really nice feature. The bottom line is that in my opinion, Procoder no longer really competes in this area, and it appears that Canopus has no plans on releasing a new version of it. Squeeze version 6 has become a really powerful encoder with a lot of features, and I would now definitely recommend it over Procoder. On a side note, I recently tried several other encoders, including TMPEGEnc, and found Squeeze 6 to offer a lot more power and features. As has been previously written, different tools for different jobs. I have at least tested just about every sub $1000 prosumer/professional encoding software available.

The vast majoity of my workproduct is SD captured at DV25 & encoded for web delivery as H.264 (either streaming or progressive download). Typically 480 x 360, 30 FPS @ 600-1000 KBPS. For these parameters I usually prefer the Mainconcept CODEC in Squeeze 5.n set to multipass VBR for best quality. Encoding time is 5x RT. If anyone wants a test done, I can probably do it towards the end of next week. Mac is committed to project. Dell is finishing up a rebuild.
As always, your milage may vary. Have used both. I always have problems when using sorenson. Less with procoder.(squeeze 5 on pc that is) Procoder UI seems is unstable (might just be me.) until you actually launch conversions, then it's rock solid. Save often if you do complicated stuff.
When using the cue manager, it uses all of the processors cores and power 99-100% cpu use non stop (i7 2.66), hurra! (seriously) I was happy to learn that squeeze 5 added comprehensive multiple cores support, but using all of my 8 cores (and setting the number of files processed to 1.5 file per core as suggested) seems to crash the thing all the time on long SD to DVD batches. I've tried different settings without much succes. And CPU use vary between 18-35% I also get random problems like audio sync problems when converting 23.976 stuff. There must be ways of fiddling around these problems, if you have clues let it know.
So I end up using more of procoder. But hell do I hate converting, transcoding and outputting stuff with all of it's trial and error.
A killer app would be welcome, maybe just a PRO CODER UPDATE! (with fully documented and tested work-flows available.) On an other note, I haven't tried apple's FCP studio 3's compressor, but studio 2's version was painful to use in my opinion (to much strange magic.). EDIT- I just found out why there is no Procoder updates! It is now know as Rhozet Carbon Coder ($$)!
